Service Description

If you know how to sail a boat you are ready to try Laser sailing! The Laser (ILCA) is the most popular one design class in the world and is raced by men and women at the Olympics. Lake Tahoe has one of America's longest running Laser fleets where we race every Monday night in the summer since 1974. Learning to master this boat takes time, coaching and dedication. This summer, we finally have the capability to run Laser clinics out of the Lake Forest Boat Ramp thanks to the Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation and TCPUD. We'll be running week long clinics in July and August. Cost is $350 for the week but we are offering a $50 week discount for keen sailors who commit to 4 weeks. Just $1,200 for 4 weeks of excellent coaching. Please call us to book a 4 week session. We want to see you winning on the race course and 4 weeks will do it! The class of 8 is open to ages 12 and beyond. Adults are welcome but priority will be given to youth. If you have no sailing experience, the Laser is a terrible boat to learn on. Try one of our adult sailing weeks first in a Melges 24 or have your kids do the Novice and Intermediate courses offered through Tahoe Community Sailing in the RS Zest. To sail Laser, you will need at minimum: a shorty wetsuit, spray top and lifejacket. If you have your own boat, bring it. If you want to try a boat we have some free ones available for the week. We have a variety of sail sizes to accommodate different weights. The 4.7 sail is for lighter sailors 100-120 pounds. The Radial is for medium weight sailors 120-160 pounds and the standard size sail is for sailors 160 pounds plus. If you are really big, say 230 pounds or more, you are welcome to participate but Laser is honestly too small for you. In the course you will learn the following: - How to sheet, steer and trim at the same time. - How to hike efficiently - How to rig sail controls and change the shape of the sail for different wind strengths - How to Roll Tack / Roll Gybe -How to S Turn downwind and prevent the dreaded "DeathRoll" (no you won't die) -How to Start -How to spot wind shifts and race strategy -Efficient Mark Roundings -Racing Rules -Boat Handling Tricks This is a great sport for youth who have graduated from the RS Zest as it teaches self reliance and self mastery. Super keen sailors will be invited to travel to some great regattas and training events throughout the year. Make 2025 the year you start racing and sailing the Laser! - Nick
